A FAQ for the Orba 2, 3 and the Chorda

(I've got bored answering questions about Apps and content for these devices.  I can't help at all for the Artiphon Instrument and the Orba 1.  If anyone has good firmware files for the Orba 2 and the Orba 1 I would happily add them for others if I think they are viable ie: someone has used them successfully. I can't test them myself. Content for the Orba 1 might also be useful.) No versions of the apps for mobile devices have surfaced at the time of writing. I believe iOS is blocking and/or deleting the app. The Android app is no longer on the store. Firmware: The latest version of the firmware for the Chorda can be loaded. There was only one update for the Orba 3 as far as I am aware - it was a fix for a bug which could stop the device working, so it should be used. These are included in this package, with instructions. It includes the PC and MacOs Apps. The apps are also still available at Artiphon.com if you prefer. The November set of presets are now available

The link to get them is: https://www.mediafire.com/file/qr5o09as7xpmg73/Alternative_Presets-November25.zip/file December is mostly prepared but I want to add a couple of things to make it more exciting first. After that I will stop trying to keep a monthly schedule, but in the meantime I am planning two bonus sets. One will be to demonstrate what can be done with Pitch-Bending and the other different uses of the Drum mode (apart from drums).

The October preset set is now available

This set has a stringy bias, but there's also a different sort of  percussion set ("drum kit" would be being rather too generous a term). It's here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/mlyn1u7jxtyp7c2/Alternative_Presets_October25.zip/file I forgot to put my own images in. If I remember I will do that later, but it doesn't matter much, they often don't show up anyway.

Major and Minor on Windows

I've recently noticed that I can't change from major to minor keys on Windows with the 1.0.670 version of the Connect app. I don't know if this is some strange problem of my own or affecting others. If it's a bug or bad coding it's not likely to get fixed so the fix, I have found, is to go back to 1.0.651 or even 1.0.608. (I slightly prefer the older style of 1.0.608, but there may be real benefits to go with 651.) Just thought I would let you know in case ........

The September set of Alternative Presets is ready to download

Five presets. One for each mode and an extra Lead preset donated by the taciturn but lovely GabbiMX. Here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/1h76magmx3kyufx/Alternative_Presets_Sept25.zip/file (October's set is in consideration already.)

In The Meantime ....

New presets will be posted very soon, but in the meantime: Some people will want to get the content that Artiphon sent out to users. I didn't download all of them myself but here is all that I did get if you need it. https://www.mediafire.com/file/13clvnbxfid0ptg/Artiphon_Presets.zip/file There will be some who need to update their devices to the latest firmware. We can only help for the Orba 3 and the Chorda. Until we can get a working file for the Orba 2 (eg: something that was sent by Artiphon in a support response) we can't help. Here is what we do have, and we know works: https://www.mediafire.com/file/yh4zj6xx5cacjet/TYYTappendix.zip/file I meant to add a note that I would not recommending loading Stems onto you device unless you are sure you want them. They use a lot of long samples and have limited use, taking up storage space you might want eventually. It's up to you, I can see some folk will love them. I don't. In case it's useful to know for Orba 3 users...

I'm back again

If you are here looking for help go to https://orbaalternative.blogspot.com/2025/11/a-faq-for-orba-2-3-and-chorda.html Since the apparent demise of Artiphon I've been trying to post information that might help people out, and am considering offering some content (just presets, not songs or stems) because there won't be anything coming from from Artiphon. It's a bit tiresome posting stuff on different places so instead I plan to post anything I have to offer here. In due course, feedback will make it more likely to continue - because I'm just human, but negative doesn't have to be a bad thing if it helps me be informed what people might like/want. I'd like to say that I will post something new monthly - but that's not realistic so it may be longer than that. I will aim in each link to include something brand new and something that you may already have if you've used my previous preset packs (although they may be slightly different for you convenience).
